While planning your trip to Kauai, and your stay at the Hanalei Colony Resort, you’re bound to have questions. Here are answers to some of the frequently asked questions we receive at our Front Desk:
1. Do we need to have a car on Kauai?
If you’re staying at the Hanalei Colony Resort, the cab fare from the airport is approximately $120.00 so renting a car is likely to be a more cost-effective option. Plus, it allows you the opportunity to explore the island at your convenience.
2. Is there public transportation on Kauai?
The Kauai Bus provides service to the island of Kauai from Kekaha to Hanalei. It does not go past Hanalei. While you are allowed to take body boards or skateboards on the bus, surfboards are not allowed. Click here to find the bus schedule.
3. How far is the Hanalei Colony Resort from the Na Pali Coast Trail (i.e. Kalalau Trail)?
You are only 2 miles from the trailhead of the Kalalau Trail, which takes you along the awesome Na Pali Coast. The first 2 miles of the trail takes you to Hanakapi`ai Beach, another 2 miles to Hanakapi`ai Falls and the full trail (11 miles) traverses the Kalalau Valley taking you to Kalalau Beach.
4. Where’s the best snorkeling near the Resort?
Only 1.5 miles from Hanalei Colony Resort, Makua Beach (commonly referred to as “Tunnels”) is a favorite among snorkelers. Or, if you’re an early riser, venture to the lagoon at Ke`e Beach at the end of the road (approx. 2 miles from Hanalei Colony Resort) – it’s less crowded first thing in the morning. You'll find crystal clear waters and vibrant fish beneath the surface.
5. Can I rent snorkeling gear?
Yes you can. Approximately ½ mile from the Hanalei Colony Resort is the Wainiha General Store where you can rent snorkel gear for the day. In Hanalei town (approx. 5 miles), Pedal & Paddle offers daily or weekly rentals.
