Where is Hanalei Colony Resort located and how do I get there?
Hanalei Colony Resort is located on the North Shore of Kauai, five miles northwest of Hanalei. Kauai's major airport is Lihue (LIH), 40 miles from the resort. Click for maps & directions.
Should I rent a car?
Rental cars are highly recommended. All major car companies are represented at the Lihue Airport. Limited bus service is available. A taxi from the airport to the resort is approximately $75.
What is the difference between Premium Ocean, Oceanfront, Ocean View and Garden View?
Premium Ocean condos are approximately 10 feet from the sand, Oceanfront condos are approximately 30 feet back (without the panoramic view), Ocean View condos are approximately 150 feet back (adjacent to a grassy courtyard), and the Garden View condos are approximately 250 feet back (facing the lush mountains).
Is this a high-rise complex?
No -- all buildings are two-story with four two-bedroom condos per building. There are 13 buildings on the oceanfront property.
Are there any one-bedroom condos?
All condos have the same floor plan. If you don't require a second bedroom, simply leave the sliding louver doors open. The second bedroom now becomes an extension of your living area.
Will I have access to a telephone, fax, or copy machine?
Telephones are available at the pool/gazebo for FREE local calls, toll-free calls, and long distance with your calling card. There is also a pay phone at the Front Office. Our Front Desk will assist you with faxes or photocopies you may require.
Guests of Hanalei Colony have access to High Speed Internet and Wireless Internet access with the two guest computers available in the Makana room. If you bring a laptop, you may use the Ethernet cable or if you have a wireless card, the Makana room is a wireless "Hot Spot," open daily from 8:00am-10:00pm.
Can I request a specific condo?
Yes, we are more than happy to take your request. However, our condos are individually owned, so we reserve the right to relocate you to a comparable one if circumstances arise, such as owner reservations.
What is the weather like?
Kauai is blessed with a moderate climate year-round, with little variation in temperature. Seasons are May through October (daytime highs of 84 to 87 degrees, nighttime lows of 70 to 72) and November through May (daytime highs of 76 to 80 degrees, nighttime lows of 60 to 64). Rainfall varies greatly around the island. Even during the wetter winter months, precipitation is in brief spells, with relatively few periods of prolonged rain. Kauai's weather is very localized, so if it's raining where you are, a dry sunny beach can usually be found by driving to another part of the island.
What is the water temperature and is your beach swimmable?
The water temperature varies from summer highs of approximately 80 degrees to a low of about 73 degrees during the coolest winter months. Kauai can have large waves in the winter, and strong currents can make a beach unsafe, so ask at the Front Desk and watch for warning flags and posted beach conditions.
Is there a shop nearby for gifts and sundries?
The Hanalei Center and Ching Young Village are located in the heart of Hanalei, five miles south of Hanalei Colony Resort.
What about laundry facilities?
Laundry facilities are located at the pool/gazebo. Laundry soap and change for the machines are available at the Front Office.
Is the Web site reservations system accurate?
Yes, we input reservations immediately and send a confirmation.
What if I have an emergency?
We have an on-site resident manager available after the Front Office is closed.
Can I send an amenity to a friend who is staying at Hanalei Colony?
Yes, the following are our most popular items:

*Please keep in mind that these amenities are not always available on-site and we may need a few days notice to obtain the items.
How close are you to snorkeling beaches?
You will find several beaches within two miles of Hanalei Colony Resort. Makua "Tunnels" Beach offers superior snorkeling. Kee Beach is a perfect swimming cove and you can snorkel along with the sea turtles and other fascinating marine life.
What should I wear?
Kauai's island lifestyle is relaxed and informal. Shorts or bathing suits with a shirt or cover-up are appropriate for breakfast and lunch. Throughout the islands, muu muus and aloha shirts are always acceptable. Comfortable sandals or "Hawaiian slippers" are perfect for daily use.
Where can I store my valuables?
Our Front Office has a small safe to store your valuables.
Are there churches nearby?
All denominations are available within ten minutes of the resort.
Do you have accommodations for people with special needs? (ADA Compliance)
We are committed to doing everything we can to meet the special needs or requirements of our guests. For your convenience, these are some of the areas where we can make your stay with us more comfortable and make you feel right at home.
- Designated handicapped parking spaces. The front parking lot has 6 handicapped stalls and one available in the back parking lot. If your condo is located in the I, J, or K building, you can make a special request for a parking stall.
- For the benefit of disabled guests we are happy to assist you to your condo and to do the check-in procedure in the comfort of your condo.
- Handicapped bathtub seat available upon request.
- Bathroom door and/or shower doors can be removed upon request.
- Handicapped toilet available on request.
- We can provide a card table, if the dining room table is not adequate.
- Staff will do guest laundry upon request, at no charge.
- Portable wooden ramp is available upon request with staff assistance provided when necessary.
- Visual fire alarms in compliant areas.
- Portable barbeque & table will be provided at the pool pavilion upon request with heights at ADA standards.
- Public restrooms at the pool are ADA compliant.
